Muhammad and the Holy Spirit

John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

Among the things which have reached me about what Jesus the Son of Mary stated in the Gospel which he received from God for the followers of the Gospel, in applying a term to describe the apostle of God, is the following. It is extracted from what John the Apostle set down for them when he wrote the Gospel for them from the Testament of Jesus Son of Mary: ..."But when the Comforter has come whom God will send to you from the Lord's presence, and the spirit of truth which will have gone forth form the Lord's presence he (shall bear) witness of me and ye also, because ye have been with me from the beginning. I have spoken unto you about this that ye should not be in doubt." The Munahhemana (God bless and preserve him!) in Syriac is Muhammad: in Greek he is the paraclete (Ishaq, 1955).

First, we must realize that the name(s) were given to Muhammad after this text of Scripture was written.

Second, the words of John 14:16-17 were said to the disciples of Jesus' time. Muhammad (c. 570-632 AD) was not alive then, so the disciples could not have been comforted by Muhammad. The church did not remain stagnant for 600 years waiting on Muhammad (Acts 1:4 "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised").

Third, John 14:16-17 (cf. John 15:26-27) says that the Father sent the Holy Spirit, but according to the 99 names of Allah - Allah is not the Father: "There is nothing like male Allah or female Allah. Allah has no gender. If you add the word 'father' to 'God' it becomes 'God-father.' God-father means someone who is a guardian. There is no word like 'Allah-Abba' or 'Allah-father'." (Naik, Islam 101)

Fourth, according John 14:26, we see that one of the tasks of the Holy Spirit is to confirm the words of Christ. So, why does Muhammad disagree so much with Jesus (John 16:12-15) and Scripture? (John 1:1; 2 Tim. 3:15-17).

Fifth, the Bible tells us who the Comforter is! He is the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. These words are very explicit:

John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Here we see that the Comforter is the person of the Holy Spirit, not Muhammad. We see that the Holy Spirit is sent by the Father who does not exist in Islam. We see that he bears witness to the truth of who Jesus is and what Jesus did (John 16:13-14).

When did Jesus send the Holy Spirit? Did he wait until Muhammad's time? No! He came at Pentecost.

Acts 1:4-5, 8; 2:1-4 . . . "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit... But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." . . . When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Mohammed is not the Ancient of Days. The Spirit of God was present at creation, Mohammad was not.

Gen. 1:2 "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."

The Comforter is the Holy Spirit. He was sent by the Father. As respectfully as I can possibly say this, Islam has no true comforter.
