Unspoken Blasphemy?

Question
According to Matthew 12:31ff., it looks like blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is restricted to spoken words. Is this correct?
Answer
Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit refers primarily to spoken words (cf. Matt. 12:31ff.). However, the term "blasphemy" is flexible enough that it can also refer to other forms of communication. In biblical days, communication took place primarily by speech. Therefore, their terms applied primarily to speech. But it is reasonable to extend scriptural principles to other modes of communication. In the same way that the law against adultery also prohibits lust (Matt. 5:28), the law against blasphemy also prohibits other forms of condemning the work of the Holy Spirit.
