What is the Unification Movement?

The Unification Movement was founded by Rev. Sun Myung Moon (1920-2012) in 1954 in Seoul South Korea. He moved to the U.S. In 1971. In 1982 he was found guilty of filing false income tax returns and sentenced to 18 months in Federal prison. This was a short time compared to the five years he spent in prison in North Korea for spying.

Moon taught that the Bible could not be properly interpreted with his divine writings. The table below defines some of the difference S between Moon's interpretation and Christianity.

There is one true and living God, who exists as three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.	Deut. 6:4; John 1:1-3	God is one person only, with dual characteristics (male/female; positive/negative). He is not omniscient. God is the author of all religions.
Jesus is God.	John 1:1-2; 20:28; 1 Tim 2:5	Jesus was a special creation of God. He was a perfect human being who was faithful to God. He attained deity; therefore he is not equal to God.
Believes in Death and Resurrection of Christ.	1 Cor 15:3-4; 2 Cor 5:13-15	Jesus was to restore the original relationship between God and humanity through marriage. He failed, as he was crucified beforehand. He is a spiritual, not a physical, savior. The second coming occurred with the advent of Moon.
Christ secured the salvation of his people at Calvary.	John 3:16, 5:24; Rom. 4:4-5; 1 Cor. 15:1-4; Eph. 2:8-9; Tit 3:5	Followers must accept Jesus for spiritual salvation and the Lord of the Second Advent (Moon) for physical salvation.
Adam and Eve Fell in the Garden of Eden resulting in original sin.	Gen. 3	Satan had sex with Eve. This resulted in the spiritual Fall of mankind. Eve had sex with Adam. This resulted in the physical Fall. Mankind has Satanic blood and are all physically possessed by Satan.
Bible is the inerrant, infallible, inspired Word of God.	2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21	The Bible is one of God's revelations, to be interpreted by Moon's flawless revelations.
Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God.	John 3:4; Rom 3:23; Jas 4:17;	Humanity broke their relationship with God through disobedience and are now relatives of Satan as a result of sexual sin in the Fall.
The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the triune Godhead.	Matt. 3:16-17; 28:19-20	The Holy Spirit is a female spirit and an impersonal element or essence.
God is the sovereign judge and sends some to shell and others to Heaven.	Matt. 25:46; Luke 16:19-31; Rev. 14:9-11, 20:10	Everyone will be saved in the end, even Satan and his demons.
